Flood Life
As a SERVPRO Marketing Representative I see people every week that are having a hopefully once in a lifetime disaster. I go to houses and companies that have disasters like floods or fires. During the storm in Louisiana of 2016 we (SERVPRO of Katy/Cypress and Champions 1960) sent a couple of teams to go help these people get their lives back to normal.
The drive there was terrible. Any highway or main road that you need to take was closed and flooded. Everyone was fleeing Louisiana because it was destroyed. The roads were packed and in disarray. The only hotel that we could get was flooded and had some mold damage from the flood. It was an hour away from the houses that we were working on too.
Everyone we saw and helped had a destroyed house. Some had 8 feet of water. They had lost all their belongings and their town smelled like mold. What should have destroyed these people’s spirits made them come together and beat this disaster away.
We helped people get their houses back in order. The people were handing out free water and food to anyone they saw. We had free lunch from neighbors and our customers almost every day. We helped them but in so many ways they helped us.
Storms are a terrible thing. They destroy people’s property and make our lives extremely complicated. We lose things that have memories attached to them and any plans we had are now gone. Food is lost and water is wasted. Having said that it is a beautiful thing to see a community come together. It is a beautiful thing to see kids help gut a house of an elderly woman. It is a beautiful thing to see water being brought door to door. It is a beautiful thing to see restaurants having “free food” signs on their front door. It is a beautiful thing to see humans come together that would destroy us on our own.
We work for our community. We love our community. SERVPRO will always be here to help anyone in need.
