Most electrical fires are caused by faulty electrical outlets and old outdated appliances. According to the United States fire administration, electrical fires account for nearly 24,000 residential fires a year. Light fixtures, lamps and light bulbs are another common reason for electrical fires. During the winter month, one of the number one causes are space heaters. These types of heaters are portable and most of the time people put them too close to combustible surfaces such as curtains, beds, clothing, chairs, couches and rugs. These types of fires can rip through a home or business and destroy everything in its path.
